The
Sunset Corridor is home to the largest concentration of
Oregon high technology firms, from Intel's 15,000-employee
campuses to small, entrepreneurial start-up companies.
An innovative spirit, encouraged by the area's expansion
and fueled by academic and research resources and a critical
mass of industry expertise, has produced numerous local
businesses: Sequent Computer Systems (now IBM), F.E.I.,
and Planar Systems.
While recognized as Oregon's high-tech center, the Sunset
Corridor is home to companies representing a broad range
of industries: Columbia Sportswear, Nike, Providence
St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center, Reser's Fine
Foods, and StanCorp Mortgage and The Standard. Manufacturers
of exercise equipment, musical instruments, and computer
printers, as well as numerous support firms, financial
loan centers, and suppliers have also located in the area.
Retailers, from small shops to multi-acre merchandisers,
continue to enrich the Sunset Corridor as well, bringing
a wide array of goods and services to support the continuing
economic growth.
