The
Young & the Restless
The
United States is in the midst of a major demographic shift.
Major metropolitan centers had three million fewer people
in the 25 to 34 year-old demographic in 2000 than they did
in 1990--a full 8 percent reduction.
With this trend in mind, the Westside Economic Alliance co-sponsored
a study that analyzed how the Portland metro region stacked
up with other metro regions on attracting this population
cohort.
The study, conducted by Joe Cortright, Impresa, Inc. Portland,
Oregon, and Carol Colette, Colette and Company, Memphis, Tennessee,
examined how well Portland is positioned to compete for this
mobile and economically important group. The study outlines
the special strengths, challenges and opportunities of the
Portland metro region in attracting and retaining this population. |
